Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a condition in which you have frequent and repetitive thoughts (obsessions) that cause you to perform repetitive behaviours (compulsions) interfering the normal daily routine.

 

Obsessive thoughts can include:

  • Fear of dirt dust and contamination
  • Constant doubts
  • Excessive concern with symmetry
  • Repeated sexual/aggressive thoughts
  • Difficulty in discarding old and worn-out items-hoarding
  • Anxiety and panic attacks are frequently associated with ocd

Compulsive habits can include:

  • Doing tasks in a specific order
  • Needing to count things, like steps or bottles
  • Repeatedly checking things, such as locks, switches and doors.
  • Rituals of washing and cleaning.
  • Saying certain words or prayers while doing unrelated tasks.

 Is OCD treatable?

Yes… A combination of Psychotherapy (talk therapy) and medication is usually required with good long-term results.

Medications are safe with minimal to no side effects and very well accepted by most patients.

Psychotherapy- CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy)

Erp (exposure and response therapy)

 Are the most common forms of therapy used. These are scientifically approved and tested forms of treatment options for OCD.
